Ma Heng (1881-1955), styled Shuping, was literarily known as Master of Fanjiang Studio. Born in Yinxian County of Zhejiang province, Ma was a master of epigraphy, calligraphy, painting and seal, and an archaeologist. He was skilled at calligraphy, painting and seal engraving, celebrated for a highly refined taste in epigraphy. He was also an excellent collector of traditional Chinese artworks. Ma was appointed curator of the Palace Museum and was elected as the second president of the Society in 1947.
